Times a’changing for UYHC. York Sport are really pushing money and commitment into all sports and UYHC has benefited most out of their recent endeavors.
The new ‘sand dress’ hockey pitch has started to take shape. By the end of May we will have the opportunity to play some of the real beautiful game on this hallowed carpet. Of course this is a brilliant opportunity to expand our amazing club that has had so much to do with our time at university, however it does mean that we must say goodbye to the beloved JLD that we have called home for many years. Alumni from years past will tell tales of their time on that wonderful but horrible pitch. That carpet has seen so much, from epic promotions, to a little too much of TAC, and that was in the space of one evening!
Top 3 memories of the JLD-
1. Arriving at the University and thinking, ‘what is this pile of shit’. Oh how I was proved wrong, that pile of shit proved to be the undoing of many a better team than us!
2. Roses 2013. Stunning display from all involved., especially Lister… what a man! Almost a whitewash on the pitch and the sideline heroics were by no means the sideshow.
3. 2014 men’s second team promotion- So tense on the sidelines and the on pitch display was immense. A fitting end to a brilliant patch.
I for one think that this new pitch will see just a much action and hopefully even more promotions in the years to come but I’m sure a toast or two will be held in salvation to the time spent on the one and only JLD.
