Last Monday saw the second week of sportivate. Despite the weather we had a solid 40 budding hockey players turn up. I even managed to get my housemate down who, for two years has been telling me that hockey is a ‘little girls’ sport. To quote him at the end, ‘it’s actually really fun’.
To give some of you readers an idea of what sportivate is about, we aim to give the hockey players that turn some respite from having their heads in the books. Get out, get some fresh air and have some fun-playing hockey with some really friendly people. In the latest session we had a range of people from those of who have never picked up a hockey stick before to the ladies 1st team captain, who is running for York Sport Tournament Sec (shameless plug, #VOTE HUTCH!).
We had three stations on the famous JLD. One group did some shooting, another did some transfers and the final station played a match. It was brilliant to see everyone improve as the session went on and already I can see potential university hockey players.
Next week should be our last session on the beloved astro. So come along to see tears, tackles and tantrums as we say goodbye this untamed beast of a pitch!
